Resolved - As per GTT:
"Service restoration has now been completed following the return of normal environmental conditions within the affected data center area. The improved temperatures allowed our engineering teams to safely restore the remaining affected network interfaces, resulting in the recovery of all previously impacted services. All services have been restored since 14:15 UTC, and no further issues have been observed.
At this time, service stability has been confirmed, the incident is considered resolved."

We have restored GTT to our mix in Frankfurt.

Aug 15, 16:19 BST
Update - As per GTT:
“Further investigation is ongoing in collaboration with the site owner's specialist teams, who continue to work on resolving the cooling system issue. Following an initial period of stabilization, the issue has reoccurred and is currently impacting environmental conditions within the affected area. We are closely monitoring equipment temperatures and maintaining continuous engagement with the site owner, with the incident receiving the highest level of escalation. Access to the affected room remains restricted due to safety requirements, which currently prevents direct intervention on the impacted hardware. Our technical teams remain ready to proceed with any necessary corrective actions as soon as safe access is restored.”

While GTT remains excluded from our bandwidth mix in Frankfurt until the resolution, it is imperative to note other carriers at Equinix FR5 might be affected by similar problems.

We continue to monitor.

Aug 15, 11:27 BST
Monitoring - We have successfully eliminated GTT from our carrier mix in Frankfurt. There's sufficient capacity with remaining carriers to cover our peak traffic in that metro.
We are continuing to monitor the situation.

Aug 15, 09:24 BST
Investigating - One of our carriers, GTT, is reporting that they are having a core router outage in Frankfurt at Equinix FR5 due to high ambient temperatures.
GTT reports that the access to the room with their equipment is currently restricted.

While Clouvider does not have live equipment at Equinix FR5, many of our carriers are located in that location. Equinix ecosystem in Frankfurt metro relies on campus cross connects meaning the carrier needs to be in just one of the campus buildings to be reachable to all tenants on campus.

After the initial sudden dip in traffic, the connectivity has re-routed around the affected connection automatically. W are now taking manual actions to disable GTT until their Frankfurt core is fully operational.
It is important to note that multiple (but not all) of our carriers are based in Equinix FR5 as such the impact can expand to other transit providers. We'll be monitoring the situation.

Resolved - We have received a final update from the site:

“We’re pleased to report that the facility has returned to normalized operating conditions.”

All our connectivity and services are fully restored and we are also observing the usual ambient temperatures.

Aug 14, 17:11 BST
Update - We are observing the temperatures continuing to decrease in the facility.
Aug 14, 06:37 BST
Update - As per the facility:

“We truly appreciate your patience as we worked to resolve these issues. Throughout the day, we have completed the restoration of Chiller C and installed temporary cooling and heat removal devices across the facility. These actions have meaningfully reduced interior temperatures to a near normal operating levels. Over the next 60-90 minutes our teams will make necessary connections, test and commence operation of the temporary chiller adding additional redundancy. “

Aug 14, 04:00 BST
Monitoring - We are observing further reduction in ambient temperatures.

Arelion capacity in Phoenix is back online.

We are pleased to confirm that the affected services have been restored.

The third chiller has been restored, and temperatures at the Phoenix site are stabilising. We will continue to monitor the service closely.

Aug 13, 23:32 BST
Update - NTT with regards to packet loss / increased latency affecting some destinations in Phoenix:
The carrier has provided an ETR of 2030 UTC

Aug 13, 21:16 BST
Update - With the ambient temperatures reducing further, all networks devices are now out of alarm state.
We have restored VPS/Cloud Hypervisors as well as known affected Dedicated Servers.
Cloud / VPS services as well as Dedicated Servers should still be considered at risk as the temperatures remain high and close to threshold of precautionary OS shutdown.

If your service is still affected, please let support know so we can investigate.

It's important to note that the datacenter is still facing issues and the cooling capacity remains reduced. It's equally important to note that our carriers continue to facing issues. Arelion capacity is down. NTT capacity remains up but NTT reports capacity issues with their own carriers. We are observing odd packet loss with GTT from time to time. The effects are expected to continue for hours after cooling capacity is restored.

Aug 13, 20:59 BST
Update - The declining ambient temperature trend in Radius DC Phoenix continued since the last update. While we tried, the ambient temperature remains too high to restore the affected services. We are re-assured about the stability of services that have not been affected by some of our network equipment components temperatures going out of alarm state.

We are continuing to observe the temperatures and we will restore the affected services when its safe to do so.
We will pass along any meaningful updates as we observe them or receive them from the facility.

Aug 13, 19:41 BST
Update - We have received the following update from the facility:

Phoenix Datacenter is experiencing elevated white space temperatures caused by multiple utility bump events attributable to overnight storms in the area. The facility has on-site vendors working rapidly to resolve the situation and restore adequate cooling. Site technicians have activated mitigation efforts to reduce rising space temperatures.
Phoenix Datacenter has thus far restored Chiller D into operation as of 8:15 am local time.
Ongoing remediation measures include the following action items (local time):

Temporary on floor cooling and heat removal equipment added (approximately 10:00 am)
Chiller C restoration (targeted 12:30 pm)
Additional temporary chiller and temporary backup generator added (targeted approximately 4:00 pm)

At present the temperatures remain high which may be service affecting for your services at this location.
Some of Dedicated Servers have entered a thermal shutdown state. All our Cloud/VPS nodes in Phoenix entered thermal shutdown state. For those servers, the ambient temperatures remain too high to restore the service. We are continuing to monitor the situation.

As for the network, majority of our external connectivity is currently up. We are observing some blips, from time to time via transits whose routers are located in the same facility and affected by the same issues. Our routers remain unaffected at this stage. Arelion capacity is currently unavailable in Phoenix as their router remains affected and we are observing no light from them. Arelion is aware and has an engineer on site.

We'll update this page once meaningful updates become available.

Aug 13, 18:23 BST
Update - We have observed the temperatures to have peaked and we are now see an early trend downwards.

We'll provide updates as soon as any meaningful update from either facility or our observations becomes available.

Aug 13, 17:01 BST
Update - The site has confirmed they are actively working with their vendor on site to resolve the cooling issue.

We will provide updates as soon as any meaningful ones become available.

Aug 13, 14:57 BST
Update - Site has confirmed they are currently experiencing cooling issues at their data centre due to recent power outages.
As a result, temperatures within the facility have increased, which may have caused temporary disruptions to your services.

The site has assured us that they are actively working to resolve the issue and restore normal operating conditions as quickly as possible.

We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Aug 13, 13:50 BST
Update - Majority of our Public Cloud/VPS hypervisors at Phoenix, AZ has reached critical temperature and entered thermal shutdown.
The affected services will remain down until the cooling situation is resolved.

Incident escalated to the highest level at Clouvider. We are awaiting the site's response.

Aug 13, 13:41 BST
Update - Our connectivity to Arelion at Phoenix has gone down - we observe no light from the carrier.
Our traffic has automatically re-routed.
We are engaging Arelion to check on their equipment.
We assume they are affected by the same cooling issues as we are.

Aug 13, 13:39 BST
Identified - The temperatures are rising rapidly with some devices reporting warning states. We are waiting for the update from the facility.
Aug 13, 13:15 BST
Investigating - We are observing elevated temperatures in our Phoenix, AZ datacenter and engaging the site to provide more information.
